Hi, I’m Helen Upperton!

and Certified Infant and Toddler Sleep Consultant.

The majority of my adult life has been spent studying science and the human body (Bsc) or pursuing elite human performance at the highest level. However, my greatest asset as a sleep coach is that I am the mother of two children who have taught me so much. 

I love a challenge and my background in elite sports as an athlete, coach and mentor has made me an expert at goal setting and overcoming obstacles and doubt. It also provided me with the opportunity to work with some of Canada's top medical and sleep professionals. I learned a great deal about how sleep impacts our ability to function, manage stress and foster great relationships. I bring these very unique experiences and skills to my clients. I take a very gentle, individualized approach to help the families I work with achieve success on their terms and reach their goals as a family. As a Sleep Sense™ certified sleep coach, I can provide you with the expertise and support you need to get your whole family sleeping better, allowing you to be the best versions of yourselves as parents to happier more well rested kids.

My Philosophy

 

You arrived here at the advice of a friend or acquaintance or perhaps a deep dive on the internet for some answers. Either way, I’m glad you found me.  I know how you feel, I have been there.  I want to put your mind at ease. You will sleep again, and so will your kids! I am a Sleep Sense certified infant and child sleep consultant. What does that mean?  It means that I am an expert at creating and implementing customized, easy to follow sleep programs that teach your child sleep skills that will provide them with great lifelong sleep habits. The Sleep Sense™ Method was created out of a strong belief that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children. A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn.

 

When a family chooses me to help guide their little one on this sleep journey, it is a big responsibility that I do not take lightly. My philosophy is centered around a very gentle, gradual and personalized approach to helping you and your family accomplish your sleep goals. Together, we will identify any issues or needs and choose a method that is aligned with your parenting philosophy and your child’s temperament. We focus first on education to empower parents, and then consistency and support to help your little one develop great sleep skills so they will learn how to fall asleep and stay asleep. Certainly, change can be hard but sleep is essential to you and your kids health and well being. This will be one of the greatest gifts you give your child and yourself.

How does it work?

STEP 1 - Let’s chat!

We book a free 20 min discovery call. You get to ask questions, I get to learn about the struggles you’re facing and your goals for the future.  I will be able to offer a few great tips to get things off to a good start.  There is NO commitment, just a chance for us to discover if we are a good fit.

STEP 2: The Assessment 

You will fill out a detailed questionnaire that will allow me to really get to know you and your little one(s) and what your days and nights really look like. Every child is different, and every family is different. You deserve to have a sleep plan that addresses your unique challenges and parenting philosophy. It has to be a great fit for you, your little one and your goals. 

Step 3 - 1 on 1 Consultation 

We will set up a 90 minute private meeting via Zoom or by phone to go over your personalized sleep plan in detail.  I will explain exactly what you should be doing at bedtime, when your child wakes up in the night, how to handle nap times and everything else you will need to know to make sure you are confident and ready to get started.

Step 4- Ongoing support

To ensure you never feel alone or “stuck'' during this process, you will have daily check ins and scheduled phone calls.  I also follow your sleep log closely to make sure everything is on track. I will be there to celebrate the little victories, to encourage and reassure you as you and your little one moves past the tough days or nights.  I’m also there to answer all of the questions that pop up along the way. 

Step 5 - Goodbye package

I will send you off with a comprehensive digital support package to help you navigate future difficulties like daylight savings, travel, sickness, and nap transitions.
